Silicon Graphic Molecular
Modelling Work Station
The Centre has a core
silicon graphics workstation for projects requiring molecular modelling.
It is located in the laboratory of Dr. L. Zamir, of the Experimental Microbiology
Department at l'Institut Armand Frappier. Dr. Zamir and her team have
expertise in analytical and synthetic chemistry, and this adds the additional
element of molecular modelling that permits detailed structure-function
studies. It can be used to display detailed structural features of potential
drug targets (e.g. DNA bases, tubulin), simulate docking of the drug or
mimic peptides with a receptor, as well as a number of other applications
of potential value to scientists within the Centre.
Hardware:
- O2 R5000 model
Silicon Graphics workstation, with real-time 3D graphic performance,
200mHZ R5000 CPU, 1MB secondary cache, 64 MB SDRAM, 4 GB ultra fast
SCSI disk, 32-bit double buffered graphics, hardware texture mapping,
motion JPEG video compression, CD-Rom video imaging and editing software
and a 20 inch colour stereo monitor.
Software:
- AMSOL
- Insight II (3-dimentional
graphics program); Biopolymer and Discover modules.
